On 19th December 2024, DETE announced via its website that the Minimum Annual Remuneration (MAR) for Health Care Assistants, Home Carers and Care Workers would increase from €27,000 to €30,000.

This increase was muted in December 2023 after a review, but will now take effect from 17th January 2025. The increase was agreed following stakeholder consultation and has been communicated to the sector during 2024.

Salary increases for other permit types and occupations have been deferred pending a review of the situation. More details of this in our previous post.

The new MAR rule impacts any permit applications submitted on or after 17th January, as well as the Labour Market Needs Tests required for these General Employment Permits. The change will not affect permit applications submitted before 17th January, nor will it impact employment permits already in force for these occupations.

The Department will not accept LMNTs that show the lower salary, even where the permit application and job offer show the new 30k salary.

For more information, or if you are unsure of any of the requirements now for HCAs/Carers, contact VisaWork for a full consultation. We can ensure your advertising is correct and your permit application will be successful.
